From a plain unpainted violin, the noted artist Ms. Shu-Ming Teng has transformed the instrument into a beautiful art piece. In September 2004, local artists were invited to submit their painted violins for judging and auction to support the Ventura Music Festival. From a field of 53 artists, she was one of the final eleven that were selected to offer their painted violins for auction. On the day of the auction, April 2, 2005, her painted violin surprisingly brought in the largest donation of $10,000.00 from the Affinity Bank of Ventura, California.
Of all the painted violins, hers was the only one featuring a Chinese theme: "Music of the Tang Dynasty," as shown in the photographs below.
